Realistic driving sim it's not but where in lacks in simulation, it makes up in spades as you crash, bash, smash, and wreck your way through a ton of nitro filled insanity. well, Total Insanity that fits the usually bill but adds just enough polish and fun to make it worth while. The fourth entry adds more of the same type stunts, races, derbies, and pure. There are 20 tracks available, but they all take place within the same 4 or 5 environments, that although are well rendered and full of detail (enhanced for PS4 Pro) they have this weird haze over them, giving a washed out effect to the graphics. Although drifting and turning will require some adjusting periods, I found myself enjoying this overall change of pace. As a lap racer FlatOut 4 is a ton of fun. The cars handle incredibly well with a nice touch of believable momentum and the feeling of just driving what are essentially derby cars is fantastic. The FLATOUT series has never taken itself seriously and it doesn't need to. Core gameplay is and can be nicely tuned. One of the most insane racing games ever released on console - Flatout 4 turns your car into a nitro-powered wrecking ball. Sometimes rightfully so but other times, a complete injustice to a solid title that's worth playing, it's just hard to keep up these days. We've been absolutely bombarded with AAA releases, indie gems, but stuck somewhere in the middle are games like FLATOUT 4: TOTAL INSANITY that just don't seem to get much press or attention compared to other titles. Well, it's 2017 and boy oh boy how times have changed.
